The Basic hamam
One programme, clearly defined
The Basic programme usually runs like this: sauna and steam room first, then the kese scrub and the foam, and a basic aromatic oil massage of about 20 minutes, with time to rest afterwards.
The journey is included too. A transfer collects you from your hotel, takes you to the hamam that serves your area and brings you back afterwards. From pickup to return, allow about 2.5 to 3 hours.

What is a Turkish bath?
A Turkish bath, or hamam, is warm, wet and made of marble. A sauna is hot and dry; a steam room is simply full of steam. The Basic programme includes both, and the hamam adds two things of its own: the kese scrub and the foam wash.
The hamam grew out of a long bathing tradition in this part of the world and became part of everyday Ottoman social life — a place to meet and talk as much as a place to wash. What it offers a guest today is the same unhurried order of things: heat, water, a thorough scrub, soft foam and time to rest afterwards.

Warm marble and a hot sauna — the part where you slow down before anything else happens.

Warm, heavy air in the steam room. You sit, you breathe, you stop checking your phone.

A textured mitt worked over the skin in long, firm strokes — the scrub every hamam is known for.

A cloth dipped in soapy water is billowed into a cloud of foam, which is then washed over you.

Different hotels can be served by different hamams. Your hamam is selected according to your hotel and transfer area; the Basic programme is the same wherever you are taken.
Your pickup time depends on your hotel, where it sits on the coast, the route, the hamam's schedule and the day's plan. It is not the same for every hotel and it is not the hamam's start time. We confirm it with you after you book, before your hamam day.

What should I wear?
Wear your swimwear under your clothes and keep it on throughout — guests are not naked in the hamam.
Light, practical clothes are easiest, especially afterwards, when you are warm and relaxed. Leave jewellery and anything valuable at the hotel.
Would you prefer a same-gender attendant? Tell us when you book and we will pass the request to the hamam.

Heat and humidity are the whole point of a hamam, and they don't suit everyone. Please skip it if you are pregnant, if you have a heart or circulatory condition, or if you are sensitive to either. If you have a medical condition, check with your doctor first and let the hamam know before your session.
